BIOGRAPHY
Called to the Bar in 1980, Daniel O’Brien founded in 1984 the firm known since 1990 as O’Brien Barristers & Solicitors. Me O’Brien’s goal was to create a professional organisation dedicated to providing personalized very high quality legal services to a prestigious clientele.

AREAS OF PRACTICE
Me O’Brien practices business law, namely corporate, commercial, real estate, banking, finance, bankruptcy, insolvency and reorganisation law, as well as labor, media, sports and entertainment law.

Daniel O’Brien sets himself apart by offering not only consultation and contractual intervention services regarding legal and business structures, but also by providing representation services before courts in civil and commercial litigation. Me O’Brien has represented his clients and appears regularly before all judicial instances, including the Court of Appeal, the Federal Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court of Canada.

Bilingual, Me O’Brien serves his clients in French and English.

ACTIVITIES
In the course of his career, Daniel O’Brien has served on business and institutional boards. He has also served, by governmental appointment, as vice-president of the Musée national des beaux-arts du Québec (the Province of Quebec national museum of fine arts), from 1998 to 2005, and is presently a member of the board of Équipe Québec, a group of advisers selected by the Mandataire gouvernemental aux instrastructures et aux activités sportives de haut niveau de la Capitale-Nationale, a governmental appointee.

In 2004, Le Journal Écononique de Québec has designated Daniel O’Brien as one of the 150 economic leaders of the Quebec and Chaudière-Appalaches regions.

Through the years, Me O’Brien has supported the Bar, namely as a lecturer at the École de formation professionnelle du Barreau du Québec (Bar School), from 1983 to 1989, teaching partnerships and corporate law, mergers and acquisitions, finance and management.

Daniel O’Brien has served as board member of the Bar of Québec, from 2005 to 2011, and as member of the Court of Appeal Committee, the Superior Court Committee, the In-house Counsels Committee and as President of the Professional Training and Services Committee. He is presently member of the Laval University Faculty of Law advisory Council.

He is also member of the Canadian Bar Association and of the Quebec Chamber of Commerce.

Daniel O’Brien has been invited as guess speaker by the business community as well as by the Laval University Faculty of Law.
